Sustainable Bag – Dans Le Soleil

Good morning everyone, today’s post is on sustainable bags from a brand called Dans Le Soleil. A local brand out here in Dubai and when they reached out to me I was more than happy to collaborate with them. I am not here to preach because not everything I buy is sustainable. I am trying to be conscious as much as I possibly can and shed some light on brands that are sustainable.

So let me give you a little insight into Dans Le Soleil, which means “In The Sun” in French. The founder of the brand had acquired a taste for fashion at an early age. Her journey to study and work in the industry took her to Paris and eventually led her to Dubai. Due to her passion for health, wellness and the environment she recognised fashion’s impact on climate change and it unethical labor practices.

Determined to make a difference she actively researched and set the foundations out to create a brand that incarnated values of sustainability, femininity and one that felt luxurious too. This led to the creation of Dans Le Soleil.

VEGETABLE DYE STRAW BAG

So my beautiful little bag is made from Water Hyacinth (straw) which is a type of riverbank weed-grown locally in the region. Ceylon spinach is used to acquire the natural pink colour. To start off with the artisans soak the weed in water and twist the strands together in small bunches to make them durable. Next, they boil the dye, simmer continuously then strain the water and add the strands and let them cool. Once the straw has dried off the artisans are ready to twist, braid or weave them with a needle and thread to create this gorgeous bag.

Now when it came to styling my straw bag I opted to go simple with my outfit. Here I am wearing my white midi knit dress paired with my white trainers from Superga. I also decided to wear my white cat-eye sunglasses from Illesteva and finally to give the outfit a bit of colour I went for a red lip which ties in with the straw bag.

ETHOS OF THE BRAND

The ethos of the brand is “Always sustainable, always ethical and forever inspiring”. They take an extra step to inspire their customers and make them feel confident and beautiful. Dans Le Soleil are committed to using earth-friendly materials, with minimal impact on the environment and work with artisans to empower them and continue the revival of handmade techniques.

ARTISANS

When it comes to the artisans Dans Le Soleil is committed to empowering them. The suppliers they choose to work with follow the same ethos. They are chosen after a lengthly conversation around quality and sustainability.

MATRIALS

Like I mentioned earlier Dans Le Soleil only use earth-friendly material, they are very aware of the environmental impact of fashion. They use vegetable/natural dyes derived from plants for colouring their bags. Going one step further they make sure that their packaging is biodegradable and the right size for their bags to minimise waste.
