HOW TO STYLE WINE COLOURED LEGGINGS

Happy Valentine’s day everyone, hope you all have a fabulous day! Today’s ensemble is based around this wine coloured leggings. Leggings and faux leather trousers are a staple for me during the  Autumn and winter months. Before I get started on my ensemble let me give you a little insight into leggings and their history. By now we are all very well aware of everything in fashion always making a comeback, you would have seen the recent revivals of the ’70’s, ’90’s ,2000’s and now the ’80’s.

When it comes to leggings I have learnt that this piece of garment has been coming back for centuries. I was very much surprised to discover that leggings dated back to the 14th century and it was men who were the first to wear them. The first thing that came to mind was Henry the VIII and his infamous white tights/leggings. But since the mid-20th century, leggings have been a staple in our wardrobes.

In 1958 chemist Joseph Shivers invented Lycra (aka spandex) and then in 1959 the first leggings were made. The fashion industry embraced the slim, stretchy trousers in the 1960’s, with the likes of Emilio Pucci pairing them with mod shift dresses. However it wasn’t until the ’70’s that leggings became a trend, thanks to Olivia Newton-John in Grease to name one. Then in the ’80’s Madonna wore cropped ones in her like a virgin video and that was all the craze back then. Present day and the leggings, are very much part of the Athleisure trend. I don’t see this old trend of leggings going away anytime soon.

WINE COLOURED LEGGINGS

Right lets begin with my wine coloured faux leather look leggings. This is from Femme Luxe Refinery and comes in this figure hugging style and is in a high waisted cut. Such an easy piece of garment to wear and style specially for the morning school run. Although here I have styled it up, I could have easily thrown on an oversized jumper and some trainers/sneakers for a casual look.

OVERSIZED SHIRT

When it came to styling this wine coloured faux leggings I decided to pair them with this bib front shirt from H&M. The shirt is from their 2018 Conscious Collection and is made from organic cotton weave. It comes with a stand-up collar with concealed button at the tip and a tab with a button at the back. At the front of the shirt it has these raw edges and concealed buttons. Love that it is slightly longer at the back, and the extra long sleeves with folding buttoned cuffs.

ROLL NECK JUMPER

For some added warmth I wore my white Zara roll neck jumper underneath. This is your basic ribbed roll neck jumper which is ideal for layering. If I haven’t mentioned it already, It’s a must to have at least a few of these in our wardrobes for the colder months.

BLAZER

Next I opted to wear a blazer and went for this oversized one from Karen Millen. This is an oversized blazer with leather detailing around the neck area. Tailored perfectly in my opinion with a single button fastening at the front centre. Karen Millen can’t do no wrong when it comes to outerwear in my opinion. Year after year they always pull it out the bag with the style and fit of their pieces. You would have seen this one worn in a few of my previous posts, HERE is one.

SOCK BOOTS

Moving onto my accessories and first off my sock boots. These black pair are from Public Desire in the sock style. Just adore how they elongate my legs and at a fraction of the cost are very similar to the Balenciaga Knife boots.

BAG

As for my bag I opted for this vintage one as it is in the similar shade to my faux leather leggings. Get ready to see a lot more of bags in this shape, here is an example from STAUD. My bag is super cute and it reminds me of a miniature brief case.

FEDORA HAT

For some added glamour and warmth, I wore my black Fedora hat. This hat is from Whistles and is from a few seasons ago, but there are plenty of fedora hats on the high street as well as the high end ones to get your hands on.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Onto my finishing touches and to my Le Specs sunglasses in the style Scandal. On my lips I am wearing M.A.C Ruby Woo lipliner with the shade Crimson Noir from Tom Ford on top. As for my nails I am wearing Dovima from NARS. Finally finishing off my look I put on my gold Cylinder ring from AUrate New York.

I like wearing leggings under dresses in winter, but I’ve never styled them like this – mine are all basic, boring black! You wear your burgundy ones so well and I love that shirt with them! 🙂

Hope that you are having a good week 🙂 We finally got a break in the heatwave last night and it was so welcome!
