Good morning Everyone today’s post is on dress to impress. I mean we have all been there at one point or another. We all want to make a good impression and represent ourselves in the best way possible. Whether we like it or not most people make a judgment call by looking at what someone is wearing. We can’t control what people think of us, as long as we are confident and happy about what we are wearing who cares what someone else thinks!

BODY SHAPE
If you’re looking to dress to impress this New Year, then there are a number of things you will want to think about. Firstly know your body shape, so when it comes to buying clothes you know what will flatter your figure the most. This is very important as most people get this wrong and end up hating everything they are wearing or own. Now if your like me, I always find after all the constant eating during the festive season, come the New Year I am feeling very sluggish.
The best way I find to combat that is to hit the gym or work out at home. What better way to start the New Year, not only will I feel good but I know that I am getting my body back to the best shape that I can. Now that is a great combination in my opinion, working out and dressing for your body shape. As you all know clothes can only do so much to flatter your figure, if you really want to dress to impress it might be worth putting your energy into toning up your body. Don’t get me wrong, toning your body and losing weight are two different things. I am not saying that you should lose weight to look good in clothes. All shapes and sizes can look good as long as you know what looks good on you. Feeling good about yourself gives you the confidence to wear what you want.
DRESSING FOR THE PART
The next thing to consider is that dressing to impress will vary depending on the situation, for instance, dressing to impress for a job interview would be very different to dressing to impress on a first date, or when meeting your partner’s parents for the first time. So lets take a job interview for instance this all depends on the type of job you are interviewing for as this will make a huge difference. After all, a piercing shop looking for a staff might be impressed by your cartilage earrings and band tee, where as a chef might see such piercing as a health and hygiene hazard that must be covered up.
You therefore need to take this into consideration when choosing your attire. The key point with making a good impression in this instance is that it mainly depends on what type of job you are going for as that will be the deciding factor as to who you are trying to impress. Therefore, dressing appropriately for the job interview. However this is very subjective and the fear most might have when it comes to making a good first impression is that not everyone has the same taste in clothes. The first thing that comes to my mind is the famous Shania Twain song “That don’t impress me much“. What one might consider as being an impressionable attire might not be the same to someone else.
CLOTHES DON’T DEFINE YOU
The truth is your clothes do say a lot about your character, however they do not define you. In no uncertain terms do your clothes make you, who you are! They merely provide a visual representation of what and how you express yourself. I see it as an art form, I enjoy to style my clothes and I have my own style. Now on the other hand take my husband who couldn’t careless about clothing. For him it’s all about functionality and being comfortable. He is not bothered by the latest trend or what is fashionable. He can’t fathom why I get so excited by the latest bag or dress. Yet he can appreciate the way I dress!
So you see we are all different when it comes to our appearance and how we choose to dress. We have all at some point either met or come across someone covered in gothic make-up, piercings from head to toe, with a tattoo across their knuckles who looks menacing yet once you get to know them they turn out to be the sweetest person you could ever wish to meet. Unfortunately, we are all prone to judging the book by its cover, and therefore, what we wear on the outside does hold some importance value. However, it’s not the be all and end all. Personally everyone should be able to wear what they want.
DRESS TO IMPRESS YOUR SELF
Apart from dressing for a job that requires some form of uniform or dress code you need to adhere to. Personally I think everyone should be able to wear what they want. Rather than dressing to impress other people, perhaps we should consider dressing to impress ourselves. We all have a unique preference and taste when it comes to clothes, and therefore not everyone is going to agree with what you are wearing. That is fine we can’t impress everyone nor should we try too. If we focus on wearing clothes that make us feel good and happy about ourselves, we can’t really go wrong. The most important opinion you should consider when it comes to dressing to impress is that of your own.

That is such a lovely mustard dress 🙂 And I agree, we need to be kind to ourselves and remember that our opinion is the most important and the only one that matters when wearing clothes! 🙂
