Good morning everyone, I am so happy and delighted to share with you my new Cult Gaia Dome bag from Shopbop. I have been admiring Cult Gaia bags for a while now and when I saw this dome design I knew I wanted to have it. Now It has been nearly two to three years that the basket bag trend has been going strong for and I don’t think it’s going to quit just yet. From oversized beach totes to tiny woven baskets, designers have adopted straw, wicker, rattan, and even bamboo into their collections. And every season thus far, without fail, we’ve immediately begun adding them to our wish lists. I for one will be adding a few more to my collection. If your like me and are loving these bags I am glad to say luckily for us the trend is still growing stronger.

The art of weaving bags from natural materials be it bamboo or dried grass, goes way back. With basketry techniques dating back at least to ancient Egypt. It was in the 1950s, that the straw tote came to be seen as a stylish item associated with luxurious travel, mainly sold in holiday destinations as a chic souvenir. In London, The Eaton Bag Company supplied desirable raffia bags and woven trunks. While over the pond, cane bags woven in Nantucket became a vacation status symbol for wealthy Americans.
The basket bag was first made trendy by Jane Birkin, and is highly associated with her so much so she has a straw basket bag named after her just like the Hermes Birkin bag. She was spotted carrying it everywhere in late 60’s and 70’s, whether it was to the street markets or at the airport stuffed with newspapers. Today, brands like Cult Gaia and Staud are leading the way with their architectural shapes and unique take on the classic designs for these must-have basket-style bags.
So to my gorgeous Cult Gaia Dome bag from Shopbop, this is one of the newest and coolest additions to the brand’s covetable bag family. This version is structured from lightweight bamboo in a curved silhouette. Just love how the handles neatly collapse when its not in use. The bag is big enough to fit all my essentials and there is no need to worry about anything falling out either. A perfect sized bag in my opinion and I just adore it!
Here I have styled my Cult Gaia Dome bag with this ensemble. Starting off with these flowing off-white high waisted Bermuda shorts with matching belt detail and front pleats from Zara. Yes you read correctly they are indeed from Zara. The shorts feature side pockets, false welt pockets and metal hooks, also has a inside button and zip fastening in the front. They feel and look so good in my opinion and I was so pleased that I bought them. They look so much more expensive then they are and look so chic. You could easily dress them down of course. I have had so many compliments and people asking me about where I have purchased them from.
Next I opted for this light weight white ribbed turtle neck sweater which is also from Zara. Great for those cooler days and perfect for Autumn/Winter. As I was going for a more put together look I decided I would wear my Zara blazer in off-white which goes perfectly with the Bermuda shorts. Who else loves a short suit as much as me? This was very unintentional, whilst I was styling my outfit I decided to wear the blazer only to find that the shade matched the shorts, result!!
Moving onto my shoes and after much contemplation I decided on my my white transparent detailed, pointed toe court shoes from Dune London. These exude a timeless glamour and showcase a classic silhouette with the transparent trim detail. The heels come in your slim style and are high. I’m a heel kinda person so for me this is just right for a lunch date. But of course wear what you feel comfortable in.
For the finishing touches I wore the shade Teddy Bear by Lime Crime Velvetines on my lips. My go to nude and a yes I am stilling loving wearing it. As for my nails I wore the shade OPI Red from OPI. Before heading out I grabbed my cat-eye sunglasses from ASOS to complete the look.
