Good morning all, I’m going to get straight on to this latest balloon sleeve trend. I am a sucker for any kind of statement sleeves and therefore when it came to purchasing this white shirt there was no hesitation. The likes of Caroline Constas, Staud, Balenciaga, Ganni, A.W.A.K.E and Rosie Assoulin to name a few have all tapped in to this silhouette. You know that the high street is right there too with equally tempting pieces that are affordable. Mango, Zara, Karen Millen and Topshop have got in on the action aswell!

So in Mum Life this week, it was the boys sports day on Tuesday. A long and exhausting day for the boys, and for me too, I did feel a little tired by the end of the day. Its an all day event and I was walking around from one event to another specially in the morning as all three boys were competing in the field events at the same time. Always a tough one having to decide who I m going to watch, makes life so much easier when they say I don’t mind if you don’t come to watch me for this event.
Zeke came first in his 75m race which of course he was extremely pleased about to say the least. His my most competitive child! He was also pleased with his long jump coming in 3rd. My proudest moment has to be when he was running in the 600m. Suddenly one of his friend who was running behind him stopped and was distressed, Zeke heard him and stopped to see if he was OK and remained with him. His friend suffers from Asthma and could not breathe and needed his inhaler. I know you raise your kids to be polite, kind and all those good things but watching him not be bothered about the race and more concerned about his friend was just the best!
Eli had a fabulous time until it was the 600m and he took a tumble in the last 50m as he tripped over another child’s leg. These things happen as we have seen many a times when the professionals are running. He was a little shook up and hurt his wrist but after a few minutes was fine to continue with the final races.
Wyatt also enjoyed the day very much, he was very pleased with his high jump performance as he originally did not put his name down to take part. He did very well considering he doesn’t enjoy it and came 4th overall. The day ended with their House winning the overall points and getting the shield. I am so happy that they are all in the same house!
On to this beautiful balloon sleeve shirt from Karen Millen. I came across this shirt when I was doing the Karen Millen Campaign shoot. I just loved the fit and the style and just had to purchase it! The shirt is tailored and fits like a glove and these balloon sleeves gives the shirt that statement vibe I am looking for. Coming in at elbow length with pleated cuffs and pleated details on the shoulders. Just the perfect shirt for the office and for going out in.
So on this occasion I decided I would pair it with my maxi tie dye effect skirt from Guess. Just the right fabric for warmer days and climate, the skirts works so well with this shirt. There are some silver beaded details around the waist and the top of the pockets. I called it my Santorini skirt as the colours remind me of the architecture.
Next I opted for my Stone coloured Espadrilles from CASTAÑER which I purchased from Net-A-Porter. These are the perfect staple shoes for Spring/Summer and are so comfortable to walk in. Adore lace-ups and this stone canvas ‘Carina’ pair has a traditional woven jute heel and elegant ties at the ankle. The rubber sole ensures a secure footing poolside or when exploring local markets when you are on vacation/holiday.
I then grabbed my black Karen Millen clutch, just the right size to carry my everyday essentials. It comes in this gloss embossed quilted design and the lining is in leopard print. Whats not to love about it, very light, handy and one of my favourites.
As for my sunglasses I went for these futuristic Stormfighter style pair from Blank. I am sure they will remind you of Cyclops or Geordie La Forge from Star Trek, well they certainly remind me of them. They may not be to everyones taste, but I absolutely adore them as they give my overall look the edginess I was going for. Finishing off the look I wore my current favourite nude lipstick from Lime Crime in the shade Teddy Bear. On my nails I wore OPI in the shade ‘I Love Manicure’ inspired by the Tiffany blue. Now I am all ready for my lunch date!
Here are few of my suggestions for balloon sleeve garments:
1. Shirts: These are coming in with dramatic oversized shoulders and sleeves. And it’s technically one of the few ’80s trends that I absolutely adore and cannot get enough of. To nail this trend, the key is to pair a shirt or blouse with a voluminous sleeve, with more fitted pieces, so think straight leg trousers and pencil skirts, high waisted jeans to strike the right balance.
2: Dresses: Works so well on dress, taking a plain dress to another level and making it standout. There are so many varieties and style out there it was very hard for me to choose them as I really wanted to show you all of my favourites. Anyway here are few of the ones that made the final cut. Hope you love them as much as I do!
Thank you so much for stopping by to read my fashion blog. What do you make of the balloon sleeve trend? Do you own any pieces with balloon sleeves? Please do let me know by leaving a comment below.

While your statement sleeve shirt is fun, it’s your beautiful tie dye maxi skirt I’m loving! I have a tie dye maxi dress and it’s been worn so much, I’d love to get it in skirt form too! 🙂
Hope that you are having a wonderful weekend! It’s really cold here and one of the boys is unwell so it will be another quiet one for us!
