Checked Midi Dress With A Waterfall Cardigan

The main focus of this look is the checked midi dress. My Inspiration for this look is from the Fall 2012 Victoria Beckham collection. I absolutely adored those midi dresses and the way they were styled down the catwalk. I think that this style of dress is just my style and would buy it time and time again without any hesitation. The main thing about the style is the fit and of course the way it looks too. This is a classic dress and will not go out of trend in my opinion. I love wearing this dress as it is super elegant and stylish at the same time. You could wear this to meetings during the day and then out in the evening. What’s not to love about it, when a dress is this versatile its a must to have at least one in your wardrobe.

So as I sit here and tap away at my keyboard, I am trying very hard not to get distracted. The neighbours are getting their house remodelled and there is a load of drilling going on. On top of that I have had the decorator in at our house and he is drilling too! With all that going on I am trying really hard to have a productive morning and get all the things I have put down on my to-do list. Once that is out the way I can at least watch an episode of The Walking Dead. Who else loves this show as much as me?!

Also my two eldest boys are playing in their school concert today and I am very much looking forward to it. Its always a proud moment to watch them perform and to see their little faces light up once they have finished. The school does a wonderful job of putting on these performances, as this really helps the children gain a lot of confidence. My eldest is going to be playing in the Jazz band and the guitar ensemble. My middle child is going to be in the Clarinet ensemble, so you can imagine the sounds that have been coming out of our house lately!

Now to my attire at hand and this beautiful checked midi dress that I purchased a few years ago from Karen Millen. Like I have mentioned before my wardrobe is full of Karen Millen pieces. This midi dress has these panels of black and checked design on it, with peak lapel and buttons on the front. It also has a side zip too, two pockets and a slit at the back. It is very fitted and cinches me in at the waist to show of my shape. A classic midi dress that can be worn over and over again.

To add some edge to this elegant checked midi dress I wore my black waterfall cardigan on top. This is from Ted Baker and I instantly fell in love with it, when I first saw it I ended up purchasing it in two colours. This one and the cream one which I wore in one of my previous blog posts. A great piece to layer on top of your outfit and to ensure you get that warmth your looking for. I adore the cascading waterfall effect it gives once worn.

I wanted to maintain showing off my waist and therefore opted to wear my black belt. This waist belt is also from Karen Millen and is so handy to have if you have an oversized garment and you want to show off your waist. In this instance it works so well with the checked midi dress and cardigan that I could not be happier about the overall look. It has a criss cross detailing on it and comes in leather and faux fur with a gold buckle at the front.

On to the accessories and I decided stay with black and wear my Karen Millen boots. These are in the sock boot style which are very popular at the moment. For me they are quite a bit loose at the top specially around my calf area and tend to slouch down. Its a common problem for me when it comes to buying knee or over the knee length boots. I don’t mind this with these particular pair of boots as there are plenty of boots on the market at the moment which are in the slouched style. The only difference with mine is that they slouches naturally! The boots come in two materials, suede and patent and I absolutely love how the two compliment each other.

As for the clutch, this also is another purchase from Karen Millen. A perfect sized clutch which is big enough to fit all your essentials and more. It is very handy and comes in a quilt effect detail. I opted for this as I wanted to keep the black theme running through the ensemble. It closes with a zipper fastening and has a leopard print lining too!

My sunglasses are from Asos and are in the cat-eye style. I have mentioned to you all before how much I adore wearing this style. Therefore saying that I could not resist wearing them with this outfit.

I stayed with a nude lipstick and went for one of my favourites, Sable Smoke by Tom Ford. Love this lipstick on me and how I can wear it everyday.
