Let Your Bralette Do The Talking

So I was contemplating on how I was going to incorporate this vintage Karen Millen top into my current wardrobe. Originally I used to wear it on its own with some flares and that worked perfectly well back then. So to give it a modern twist I wanted to style it differently. This pair of tailored tuxedo trousers are so elegant and sophisticated, also from Karen Millen and I have had them for a few years now. They are cropped and in the colour ecru with black trims at the side and at the top, they feel amazing to wear and are just so elegant in my opinion. I don’t get to wear them on an everyday basis that’s why they are in such good condition and look brand new. I am one for being able to wear an item of clothing again and again, and find that some trends always seems to come back in fashion.

I have seen a whole number of similar trousers everywhere from high end to high street. Some look exactly the same as the ones I am wearing. Therefore I wasn’t inclined to buying another pair just yet in the same colour, although I may get some in black with the side stripes in white lets wait and see what I decide to go with. I styled the trousers with this ecru shirt from Ted Baker, the details at the front are just gorgeous and the sleeves are just stunning, and this is what drew me to the shirt in the first place. Its is quite a see through shirt and normally I would wear a bralette under it in the same colour. I had a few other shirt options I could have gone for, but the white shirts didn’t look right in my opinion with this ecru coloured trousers.

So it was left to the Bralette top to inject some colour and give the outfit a modern twist. You may have noticed this trend on the catwalk, wearing a bralette over other garments. There are a huge number of different bralettes on the high street and in high end stores, you are spoilt for choices. From lace ones, ones with bright hues like mine, sexy cut-outs, and dainty details ones. So here is my take on styling this trend!

Here are a few suggestions on how to wear a bralette:

Bralette under a Suit: If you own a suit and are thinking about wearing it then why not give it a twist by styling it with a bralette. The bralette will peek out just enough to keep things interesting, but not so much that you feel like you are completely exposing yourself. Team a cross body bag and a pair of heels to complete the look.

Bralette and T-shirt: How about going for a casual look, by layering a super-sheer lacy bralette over a T-Shirt. Style it with a pair of boyfriend jeans and some heels. This will create a look that’s fresh and edgy. Complete the look with a mini cross body bag. Find lacy bralettes (here) and (here).

Bralette and shirt: Like what I have done with my bralette, you can style a simple shirt by adding a bralette on top. If you are going for a white shirt then team it with a black bralette. Now for the bottoms you can go for either a wide leg pair of trousers, cropped tailored ones like I have done, or a skirt. All work well in my opinion, depending on weather the look is casual or for a night out. Style the ensemble with either flats or heels. Find some black bralettes (here) (here) and (here).

Bralette and cropped jumper: Another way to incorporate the bralette is to pair it with a cropped jumper and some high waisted flared jeans. This is another favourite of mine and being a lover of flared jeans I can not wait to style this look on me. I would go for some wedge heels to complete the ensemble.

Bralette Under a Lace Top:  If you are looking for a more fashion-forward look, why not try choosing an opposite colour. Go for a white lace top with a black non-lace bralette underneath. This will create a striking appearance. Style the combination with a pair of wide-leg trousers and open-toe booties for a modern outfit.

To complete my look I decided to go with my high wedged Zara X lace-up espadrilles, they keep in with the black and white colour scheme. As for the bag, I have gone for my M & S cross body bag in black with the pearl details at the front. Such a cute little bag with a gold chain and a magnetic fold over clasp. To finish the look I teamed the ensemble with these Prince Ltd addition frameless mirrored Aviator sunglasses in silver from Le Specs.
