HOW TO STYLE A MONOCHROMATIC LOOK BY LAYERING

Good afternoon everyone and happy Wednesday. Today’s post is on layering a monochromatic look, here I have gone for camel on camel. Both of these pieces were bought separately and a year apart. I love it when I can bring pieces out of my closet and style them differently, it gives me so much joy! Anyone else feel the same way?

Now your outfit doesn’t have to be muted, I will show you three other colours that work equally well when it comes to layering. As for the monochromatic look you can play around with so many wonderful colours. If colours are not your thing then stick to your muted tones by all means.

BLAZER LAYERED ON TOP

So first up is layering a blazer on top of a dress, easy right! Most of us own blazers, so why not go for a blazer that is in the same shade or tone as your dress. Take a look at my outfit, now if I had chosen to wear a black blazer instead of the camel one the outfit would look so different. The tones together make the outfit stand out for me! As for the accessories I opted for black apart from my belt. I wanted to add another tone and the tan belt works rather well with the camel. Also it gives me some shape too as both the blazer and the dress are oversized, this cinches in my waist and pulls the whole look together.

A SHIRT LAYERED UNDER A DRESS OR A VEST JUMPER

Another way to do layering is to layer a shirt under a dress, now I find dresses that have straps or sleeveless ones work the best. I am of course talking about a mini or midi dress. You could also take it another step and add a coat or a blazer on top. This is great for those of you who don’t like showing off your arms.

Next and onto layering a vest jumper, here I would style the shirt under the vest jumper. Then add a pair of high waisted trousers and do a half tuck with the vest top. Again depending on how warm or cold you feel you could add a blazer or coat on top!

LAYERING WITH A ROLL NECK JUMPER

Moving on and onto layering with a roll neck jumper. Again I would style the roll neck jumper under a slip dress whether it’s a mini, midi or a maxi. The roll neck would work well with all of them, and I am talking about a light roll neck jumper not a thick one. A roll neck jumper also works with a short suit which is one of my favourite. I prefer a Bermuda high waisted pair of shorts, next get your roll neck jumper in the same shade and tuck it into your shorts. Then add a blazer in the same shade or tone to complete the look.
