Good morning everyone, so here is my second look with the Merver Bayindir hat. This hat is aptly named Cleopatra, I shall go into depth below. So the SS20 ‘Icons’ collection is dedicated to all women around the world who have not only inspired us but have broken down barriers to pave for future generations. Now this collection consists of twelve different lines, there are a number of styles in each line.
They include formal wear, party wear, bridal as we as beach wear too, therefore providing a hat for any occasion. What I love about this brand is that the entire collection is completely handmade, from silk flowers to the colours of the fabrics. Also all the hats are made in house and the materials used are all ethically sourced from fair trade companies.
Right like I mentioned earlier this hat is named Cleopatra after one of the most exotic and flamboyant women in history. The headpiece channels the irresistible lure of Cleopatra herself. I for one can’t get enough of it, it is one of my favourite hats.
What I adore is how the flat disc base offsets the black pinok-pok and embroidered orange for a textural design which is instantly eye catching. Now I didn’t know what a pinok-pok was either, it is a finely woven fabric made of ABACA, also referred to as an extra fine sinamay which uses the finest of straws and has a very fine weave and almost looks like linen. Finishing of the hat is a large orange flower which provides additional embellishment together with a curling shaped quill.
Moving on and when it came to styling Cleopatra I couldn’t wait to style it with Aubry which is this dress from Solace London. I wanted to go flamboyant just like Cleopatra, this dress has all the drama in the sleeves and it also gives me Kimono vibes too.
Finally completing my attire I opted for my flip flops from Haviana. I opted to go for a dress down approach hence the reason for choosing this black pair. This just keeps the focus on the hat and dress.
Are you a hat person? If so is this the kind of hat you would wear? Wear would you wear it to? Do let me know by leaving a comment below.
