Good morning everyone, today’s ensemble is all about wearing PJ’s as day wear. Now you would have seen this trend on street stylers and Instagrammers alike. Whether you want to go all out or just start off small, I have a few ways to go about incorporating this look. For a beginner why not start off with a lace camisole teamed with some jeans. Now if your feeling more comfortable take it one step further and go for a silk slip dress. Either layer it with a polo jumper or a big teddy coat to complete the look. For those of you who don’t mind going the whole nine yards, do what I have done here and go for a matching silk set of pyjamas.
Pyjamas down the catwalk have been a firm favourites in the past, with the likes of Prada SS17, Thakoon SS16, Louis Vuitton AW13 and Stella McCartney SS12 to name a few. So it’s no surprise that year after year you will see this trend popping up.
Before I get started on my attire here is a brief back story of the PJ’s. So during the Raj the word pyjama was incorporated in the English Language via Bengali. Our use of pyjamas around the world is in fact the direct result of the British presence in India during the 18th and 19th centuries. Pyjama were worn by both Indian gentry and peasants which also transcended sex. In the 1920’s and 30’s none other than the lady herself Coco Chanel, would often be pictured in pyjamas, accessorised with her signature pearls. No wonder we love this two piece, and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
Right so here is my take on styling the pyjama set for day wear. This pyjama set is from Victoria Secrets and comes in their ultra-luxe satin with a smooth button-up top and drawstring bottoms. They are extremely comfortable to wear as the silk is super soft, very light weight and easy to wear, the trousers have an elasticated waist to give me added room should I need it.
Next and onto my shoes, after much deliberation on which pair I should wear, I opted for these Reiss nude T-Bar court shoes. I wanted to keep the accessories quite subtle and let the pyjamas do all the talking. But I could have easily styled them with some bright pair of shoes or heeled sandals which would have worked equally here. I liked the way the straps cuffed the bottoms of the trousers, hence another reason for choosing to wear them.
Now onto the bag, I wanted to keep nude theme going and like I mentioned earlier keep to a neutral palette. So therefore chose my blush colour Karen Millen bag. A cute bag which is just the right shade and works rather well with my shoes. It has enough room for my everyday essentials and has this beautiful croc effect.
Finally I am wearing my Le Skinny red/aubergine cat-eye slim sunglasses which are from Poppy Lissiman. Now you all know by now that my ensemble is not finished unless I am wearing my shades! Absolutely adore these cat-eye pair as you already know from my previous posts. For the finishing touches I went for a bold red lip. I decided to wear my Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme Intense Matte Lip Colour in the shade 116 extreme. So there you have it my complete look for wearing pyjamas as day wear.
