So on to this Kimono trend, which I must say I am loving very much, specially when it comes to wearing it on holiday/vacation. In this recent heat wave we have been having here in the UK, I just love to lounge around wearing just my Kimono. A very versatile piece of garment that is also ideal for transitioning into Autumn/fall. This summer trend is still going strong and was endorsed by Karl Lagerfeld himself. He proposed in his Resort 2018 collection a variety of runway looks featuring this super-light garment teamed with one-piece swimsuits and gladiator sandals. Therefore mixing in Greek with oriental vibes in an inspirational, creative and modern way.
In Mum Life this week, Eli has been at football camp, he absolutely adores football. Therefore keeping him busy and boredom free! As for Wyatt it was his birthday a few days ago and he turned ten years old. He gets super excited about the whole day, I mean who doesn’t right? The amount of excitement he exudes is just fantastic to see and makes as all feel super happy and excited at the same time. Again this year all he wanted was Lego sets for his birthday and that’s what he got from us and his aunt.
The birthday party will be in September as most of his friends are away on holiday/vacation. He wants to go to the cinema with all his friends, being the film buff that he is. He’s my little fountain of knowledge when it comes to release dates of new films. Zeke on the other hand has rather enjoyed spending his time reading the Series of Unfortunate Events and then watching the series on Netflix. Not a keen reader but this series of books has got him really into reading.
Ok lets get back to the kimono, which is a feminine and charming garment to indulge in for those summer days. A versatile, go-anywhere piece, leave it open and floating or fasten it with a belt or the tie to turn it into a dress with just one move. When it comes to choosing your Kimono why not go for a fine silk design in line with its origin. Maybe add a twist with chiffon, lace or cotton styles. Whether its short, long, super-long, featuring ample, long sleeves, the kimono is the must-have piece for summer.
So here is my take on the Kimono trend, much like Karl Lagerfeld I love to wear mine over a swimsuit. There are times when I wear it just by itself as a dress, it’s just so easy to throw on and fasten the tie and voila your ready! Such a great piece of garment to lounge around in too like I mentioned earlier. Also perfect as a transitional piece for Autumn/fall. I have layered my Kimono in the past with a pair of boyfriend jeans or skinny jeans and a shirt and some heels. Leaving it open and floating as I strolled along!
This beautiful floral Kimono I am wearing is from Zara. It comes in this velvet material, which isn’t heavy at all and the big bold flower design just makes it stand out. I find Zara do some gorgeous kimonos specially in the longer lengths as well as short ones too. I prefer longer Kimonos to the shorter ones and tend to gravitate more towards them.
Next onto my sunglasses and these gorgeous pair from Le Specs in the Rapture style. Oversized and in the cat-eye style that I adore. Finishing off my look with my red lipstick from Lime Crime Velvetines in the shade Red velvet. Worn here with Mac Ruby Woo lipliner to give my lips that intense look.
So the tennis racket here is a prop, although I did try and play but to no avail. It’s not very practical and after a few minutes it came off and I played in my swimsuit! Of course thats also not your ideal tennis attire but who cares I’m on holiday/vacation with my family and they aren’t bothered about me prancing around in my swimsuit so why should I be!
Here are few of my picks on how to style a Kimono
Kimono paired with shorts: This attire gives off a casual vibe when paired with denim jeans. However, teamed with a pair of tailored high waisted shorts and a shirt and some heels makes the whole outfit look rather chic. This is one of my favourite ways to where the kimono!
Kimono, skinny jeans paired with a white tee: This looks is just ideal in my opinion for those cooler days. A perfect ensemble for brunch, lunch and even for a casual dinner date!
