GINGHAM STYLE

Like last summer, it looks like the Gingham print has captured nearly everyone’s imagination again. This pretty, preppy fabric which looks like a tablecloth is taking over in fashion right now. Seen at Altuzarra, Christopher Kane, and many more. Designers like Sonia Rykiel and Mary Katrantzou opted for beautifully bright Gingham pieces.

Whether you prefer this fresh pattern in classic black and white, in one of the season’s pretty pastel colours, or in a beautiful bright Gingham. There is a variety of options for you to get your hands on. So get ready to test out the season’s most French-inspired trend.

Gingham Style

In Mum Life this week, Eli and Wyatt are both on their school residential trip. Eli will be away for five days in Devon, he was so excited before he left. He loves being away with his friends and although he won’t say it I know he will miss us too! Well I hope so. As for Wyatt he is off to the Isle Of Wight. He too is excited but apprehensive at the same time as it’s his first time going away for four days. I am just hoping he doesn’t fall asleep at the dinner table.

Just want them both to enjoy themselves and have a great experience! Going to miss them both immensely, It will be just Zeke at home and I know he will miss them too! The house will definitely be quite without them. On the plus side I get to spend some quality time with Zeke, which he will thoroughly enjoy.

Now before I get onto my ensemble just wanted to give you all a little bit of a back story about Gingham. Of course, this print isn’t new, it has actually been around for centuries. It’s thought to have originated in Southeast Asia and was later seen in the 18th century in mills in Manchester. It’s no longer just a twee preppy print associated with school girl pinafores. It can fit into any wardrobe. So here is my take on this trend.

My gorgeous Gingham shorts are from Guess. Its from their 2018 Spring collection modelled by none other than Jennifer Lopez. The shorts are in a mid rise with straight legs and a regular fit. The material has a slight stretch to it and has a zip fastening on the side. To be honest I was not looking for a pair of shorts but when I came across these Gingham pair I couldn’t resist.

I decided to style them with a statement sleeve shirt in white. This one I am wearing happens to be from Mango and I adore the balloon sleeves! Tucked into the shorts and worn with a waist belt to accentuate my waist. The belt is from Karen Millen and is a few years old, but works rather well here in my opinion.

Grabbing my tie up Espadrilles from Zara which I absolutely can’t get enough of, I adore wearing them around this time of year. It was rather straight forward when it came to choosing the bag, I went for my Mango bamboo bag. The colour works really well with the Espadrilles and gives the overall look the Spring/Summer vibe I am looking for.

Next I threw on my black Karen Millen Tuxedo Blazer. This just elevates the ensemble and makes it look more sophisticated. As for my make up, I did my everyday look with the winged eyeliner and for some colour I wore Red Velvet Velvetines from Lime Crime Cosmetics.

Finally finishing off my look I picked up my ‘Absolutely‘ silver and clear yellow sunglasses from Hashtag Sunglasses. These are beautifully studded in the aviator style and come in six different other colours.

Here are few of my suggestions to give you some inspiration on wearing Gingham.

Gingham Shorts: If you don’t want to style your shorts up like I have you can by all means dress it down. Why not wear a Tee and some trainers/sneakers with them for a more casual look and throw on an oversized cardigan to finish off the look.

Gingham Dress: Now if you want to go for a dress you don’t have to stick to the original black and white. Gingham now comes in all colours, whether you want to wear it with Espadrilles, trainers/sneakers, or layer it up by wearing a white shirt underneath, here are a few of my picks.

Gingham Shoes: If however you do not want to go bold with this look then why not go for a subtle look. Just opt for some gingham accessories such as backless checked mules or bags.

Gingham Trousers: It depends whether you want to go cute, or sexy. If you like to look girlie, then why not wear your trousers with some boating loafers and a button-down shirt. For a cute polished look wear them with pointed stilettos and a crop top. For a more dress down look go for a laid-back accoutrements, such as an oversized sweatshirt to set off against the gingham print. Finished with a transparent clutch and some trainers/sneakers.

Gingham Skirts: With warmer weather approaching, (she says being hopeful) why not go for a pretty ruffle skirt in the classic A-line style paired with some hi-tops. Switch the trainers/sneakers for some heels in the evening for going out. You could also wear your skirt to the office by pairing it with a white shirt and some kitten heels or pumps.

What a very nice shorts, you look adorable! I used to love Guess and had everything from their jeans, tops, bags including their gingham prints about 20 years ago. I’ve kept some pieces to show my appreciation for that era and I wasn’t wrong because the gingham print is back haha. Nice content dear, have a great weekend!
