So its finally Spring and the start of wedding season, well for me anyway. If you are wondering what occasion wear to go for. Well ponder no more here is my take on a black maxi Self-Portrait Dress. Two weeks ago it was my brother in-laws wedding. So began the search for a dress, I started a month earlier browsing on the internet trying to find myself a dress. After several searches I came a cross two dresses one from Self-Portrait and one from Solace London. Both dresses are maxis and in black. So what tipped me to go for the Self-Portrait dress was the fact they had the dress in my size. The Solace London dress was not in my size and I did not want to start faffing around and taking it to the tailor to get re-sized.
Now I found this black Mia Guipure lace and pleated crepe gown on the Outnet. Instantly I knew that this was one of my top picks for this occasion. I am always so thrilled when I manage to find my size on the Outnet, as most of the time they are always sold out. I waited in anticipation for my dress and hoped that it fit me. Normally I find that most of the garments can be a little loose around my waist. When the package arrived I frantically opened the box and immediately tried on the dress. I was so overjoyed that it was the right fit for me and there was no need to make any alterrations Yay!!
On the day of the wedding I got the dress out and steamed it. It was an afternoon wedding so plenty of time to get ready, which is always a bonus. Looking out of the window and seeing the snow fall was not a good sight first thing in the morning. But it was not settling so that was reassuring, I had not thought about what I was going to wear on top. The wedding ceremony and the reception is all in one place so therefore had not given any thoughts on what I was going to wear on top of the dress.
Next I went off to do my hair and make-up. I began with my hair as I knew this could take the longest. I put it in a bun and would you believe it I managed to do it on my first try. Previously when I had done a trial run I couldn’t for the life of me get it too look neat. The hair was just sticking out all over the place and even when I tried to secure it with bobby pins it just didn’t look right. So I was just thrilled and didn’t dare to touch it too much in fear of messing it up.
I then moved onto my make-up. The only thing here I was going to be doing from my normal routine was wearing eyeshadow. I don’t tend to wear eyeshadows on a daily basis and also keep my make-up to a minimum. Firstly I used the Charlotte Tilbury cream eyeshadow ‘Eyes to Mesmerise in Mona Lisa‘ which is a chocolate brown colour. Followed by Copper Craze by Maybeline and then to contour the crease I used Brown Down by M.A.C. As for my lips I wore Tom Ford Crimson Noir lipstick on top of my Brick Lipliner from M.A.C. After finishing off my make-up I went to get the boys ready. They all looked so handsome in their grey suits, they opted for the grey colour. I on the other hand was not too keen on the colour to begin with. However, after seeng it on them I was pleasantly surprised.
After booking the taxi I went and got into my dress, the gorgeous lace on top is just divine. Also the pleats and the thigh high split just brings another dimension to the dress. I needed help with the zipper as I do with most of my dresses so thats nothing new. I styled the dress with my nude shoes from Kurt Geiger, these are in the platform style and I find them very comfortable to walk in and more importantly dance in. As for my finishing touches I wore my gold statement earrings from Bees Jewellery. The gold bag is a vintage one that I bought years ago and I really can’t remember where I bought it from to be exact. Finally before heading out I decided to throw on a black shawl for some added warmth to and from the taxi.
Once we arrived at the Rembrandt Hotel In Kensington we were seated. My husband went off to do his Usher duties myself and the boys chatting amongst the guest before the Civil Ceremony took place. It was a small intimate family and friends only wedding so there was about fifty of us there. My other sister-in-law and I were asked to be witnesses at the wedding. This entailed us signing the marriage certificate.
The ceremony was Short and sweet and we moved onto drinks and family photo time. At this point the boys were getting hungry, up to this point they had done rather well and behaved so well. So when it was time to be seated for dinner they did not need to be asked twice. The food was delicious and we managed to get through the whole meal without any spillage. After the speeches had been done it was time to hit the dance floor.
The boys and their cousins were the first to start off the dancing. I was very surprised that Wyatt managed to stay awake. He is normally asleep by 7.00pm, so for him to be up this late was just rare to see. His uncle had made a deal with him, if he manages not to fall asleep till the first dance he would get a Marvel Lego set. So that motivated him to stay awake and even dance with us all. It was a beautiful wedding with the bride looking absolutely gorgeous. Everyone had a fabulous time and it was great to see all the family together.
We retired early as the boys were finally tired and ready for bed. I can safely say so we were too and I couldn’t wait to hit the bed myself. My feet were ready to get out my shoes and get a nice hot soaking before going to bed. I know most people would be too tired to wash their feet, but I really can’t go to bed until my feet have had a good soak and then a good moisturising. This actually makes me fall asleep faster I find.
