How To Style A Cape – A Cape For All Seasons

If your wondering how to style a cape, well ponder no more. Here is my take on this gorgeous cape jacket I am wearing. This is a cape for all seasons in my opinion. You will see me strolling around in this all year round, apart from those days when the weather is scorching hot during the summer months. Which are rare here in the U.K and if we are lucky we may get a week or two if that of some warm sunny days.

There are a multiple ways of styling a cape depending on the season. The ultimate in warmth and versatility, and a dream if you love layering. Knitwear and capes are the perfect combination for layering in winter. Leaving you looking chic and cosy, all at the same time.

Before I start talking about my ensemble. Let me give you a little insight as to what has been happening in the world of mum. Well I can gladly say that Eli’s Eleven Plus is over now!!!!! Yay…… I don’t know who is more happy me or him! No more cycle tests for him either, this was a weekly test they had to do prepare them for the Eleven plus. He started them last year in year five. Currently Wyatt is doing them, and it actually makes the whole process a little easier. Well it did for Eli, so I shall see how Wyatt handles it as he is a very anxious child and a perfectionist.

The boys went to watch the Death Cure which is the third film in the Maze Runner series, during the weekend. Wyatt has read all the books by James Dashner and wanted to see the film. This is a perfect way to get them to read books. Zeke my youngest is reading Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events currently. He so wants to finish all the books before the second series comes out on Netflix. As he not a keen book reader this has really made a difference as he can’t wait to finish the books. We both read it together and to be honest I also can’t wait to find out what happens to Count Olaf!

Todays attire takes it styling cues from this gorgeous fitted cape jacket. Another piece from Karen Millen, such a versatile jacket that can be worn in numerous ways. So how to style a cape? Well Here I went for a more casual street style look. On many occasions I have worn it with an all black attire whether it is a pair of black trousers and a black roll neck jumper, or a pair of black skinny jeans a black shirt and some black knee high boots. They all work so well with cape jacket. I am aiming to wear this again during the spring months so I can show you how versatile this Cape jacket is. So watch this space……..

Now lets start from the top, so from head to toe lets begin. My black PU Baker Boy hat is from Topshop, I do own another black one but that one comes in a knit. Which is not ideal when it rains, where as this one I can just wipe clean and keep the rain away, to a certain degree. Topshop currently have a few more selection of Baker Boy Hats if your interested check them out here.

Next to these slim cat-eye sunglasses which are from Asos and I have been wearing them on repeat for the last few months now. The slim sunglasses are on trend now and there are a variety of them on the market. I have a vintage Gucci pair in the rectangular style which I will be wearing in the near future!

On my lips I am wearing Chanel Coco Rouge Adrienne again, I seriously can not get enough of this lipstick. Such a great nude lipstick in my opinion, if you have not tried it yet I would highly recommend it. It is my go-to everyday lipstick at the moment.

This shirt I am wearing is my husbands, I don’t have an oversized shirt that has exaggerated long sleeves. I searched online to see if I could find one but to no avail. There were a numerous amount of oversized shirts but not with exaggerated long sleeves. This is a mens fitted shirt from T.M Lewin, and I think it worked rather well here. I certainly got the long sleeves I was looking for.

My bag is a vintage DKNY, it comes in this ecru and dark brown colour with the DKNY print all over. The print is rather faint and not in your face, which I of course adore. Its a cute little handy bag that can hold all your everyday essentials. It has two pockets on the outside with button closures. On the inside there is also a side zip pocket too, to carry any cards or loose change that you may have.

Wanting to stay with the black I decided to wear my black Guess flared jeans. I have to confess I really really adore flared jeans. Although they must have a good fit and be long enough so that you can barely see my shoes. Which of course these do, and in doing so elongate my legs. They are your slim fitted style of jeans which are snug around the thighs and then kick flare out from the knees.

Finally my shoes, these are my nude platform heels from Carvela at Kurt Geiger. Personally I feel flares and heels whether they are platforms or wedges work rather well together. The colour ties in with the whole look. So thats my take on how to style a cape jacket.
