Layering In Karen Millen

With sleeves like this, this is a perfect shirt for layering under a sleeveless dress! This was not intentional but I am wearing head to toe Karen Millen except for the bag. The dress and shirt just worked really well together and the laser cut out shoes finished the look. I do love shopping at Karen Millen and have done so for the past 20 years, showing my age now! I find the garments to be well tailored and they truly last the test of time as I still have a few pieces that I had bought years ago, now thats vintage! I have gone for a preppy/professional style by layering my shirt under my tank dress, this is a great outfit for meetings or going to the office, you can change the heels to a kitten heel or blocked ones for on the go as the ones I have on are quiet high and maybe not ideal for a whole day of walking around.

I don’t see the layering trend going away anytime soon and with the next season not so far away this will be a perfect way to keep warm and style few of your favourite pieces together. There are a multitude of ways to do layering with your favourite pieces. Here are a few suggestions for layering:

The simple slip: This is a popular street style trend and can be seen on many influencers, I am currently on the look out for a slip dress so once I purchase the right one I shall be trying this style out myself. So sometimes the simplest things are the best! Taking inspiration from the catwalk and matching a basic white T-Shirt with a silky slip dress to give you that understated look. To add some glamour to this ensemble try wrapping a belt around to cinch you at the waist and a red lip to give you that added interest.

Try wearing a striped black and white shirt under a plain black slip dress with sandals for an effortlessly cool summer outfit. Trainers or Sneakers look just as cute with a slip dress and make a dressy ensemble that much more fun and casual, it’s an unexpected mix. By just simply opting for different styles of shoes, you can change the whole outlook of your ensemble. Find high end slip dresses (here) for high street slip dresses, look (here)and (here).

Having fun with sleeves: One of the easiest ways to amp up the style is by going for statement sleeves and either layering them under a simple dress like I have done or under a jumpsuit or a midi dress. Go for oversized cuffs, plenty of puffs and ruffles, you can have so much fun with your outfit. I personally would stick to a white shirt under a solid colour garment or a black shirt under a white garment to give you that monochromatic look.

The trouser and oversized shirt combo: This style is edgy and fun, you can inject colour and print to this style. How about wearing a pair of blue distressed cropped jeans with an oversized shirt or shirt dress, a pair of heels and a cross body bag. The heels give this look some added glamour in my opinion and this is how I would wear it. For an evening out go for a striped green and white oversized shirt or dress shirt tucked in the front of a pair of white straight-leg trousers, some heels and a clutch to finish the look. Find some oversized shirts and dresses (here), (here) and (here).

Bandeau style: There is a new fresh way to wear your bandeau top by wearing it on top of your shirt. The two together is one of the chicest looks for layering. You can have your shirts printed, oversized and untucked but make sure your bandeau top is form fitting and in a neutral shade of colour. One of my up coming looks will involve layering a bralette over a  shirt. I am very much looking forward to showing you how I style it, so keep an eye out for that post! You can find bandeau tops (here) and (here).

Layering with lengths: Another one to look forward to when transitioning to the next season or when the temperature is a little colder is a long sleeveless jacket or a Kimono. This looks great when worn over either a shirt dress or a maxi dress, with cropped trousers or jeans and some heels to give you an elegant style. Find  sleeveless jackets (here), (here) and (here). For kimonos look (here) and (here).

To tie in my ensemble I have gone for my  Missguided bag, this white cross body beauty with eyelet details. It’s a cute little bag with wide straps which I am loving very much!
