Shade Of Pastel, Self-Portrait Dress

Peek-a-boo (see-through) trend is a firm favourite this spring/summer. So if you are not that daring with the sheer dresses and tops worn on the catwalk, then you can go for a Self-Portrait dress like the one I’m wearing. This sky blue semi-sheer floral panel midi dress made with guipure lace is just so pretty.

The bodice features a structured fold-over collar, and is fitted at the waist while the skirt is slightly flared waist down. Scalloped lace composes the cap sleeves and there is a slight gather from the knee down to create some volume. Finished off with beautiful lattice trim to accent the mesh panels.

There are plenty of semi- sheer dresses and sheer tops out there. So it can get overwhelming as to how to wear them. Firstly invest in some sporty-chic lingerie for maximum coverage. Its all about the bodies, bandeaus, bustiers, slips and bras. Sometimes a slither of skin is all that’s needed. Here are a few ideas on how to style sheer tops without baring all.

  • Pair a patterned sheer top over a nude bra or bandeau, the pattern gives the illusion and makes it hard to tell there’s not much happening underneath.
  • How about a black sheer top over a black bra, and wear a cardigan or blazer over it to just let some skin peek through.
  • A white sheer shirt can be worn over a black or nude body with a pair of jeans to keep it casual. To amp up the look, you can wear some tailored trousers and a blazer with some heels for a night out.
  • The classic black maxi in transparent chiffon can be layered over a simple silk slip. If you want to be daring then go for high-waisted micro shorts and sporty bandeau bras.

You get the general idea, layering it up to make it more wearable.

Keep accessories clean, a nude pair of shoes lets your legs do all the talking. I have styled my dress with these nude beige platform courts from Carvela. You can’t go wrong with a pair of nude heels in my opinion.

For a sophisticated, more modern style, add an angular pair of Cat-Eye sunglasses to your look. Also make sure to pull back your hair to show off the shape. My cat-eye sunglasses are from Asos and I have sleeked my hair into a topknot and kept make-up to a minimal to tie in the whole look.

Thanks for reading my fashion post.
